First TESDA-YP4SC Assessment Administered

To guide graduating high school students in choosing the right career particularly on relevant job market trends and their corresponding competencies, the first Youth Profiling for Starring Careers (YP4SC) was administered to five selected schools in the province from October 3 – 7 & 12, 2005.

The said synchronized career guidance program, intended to assess the aptitudes and interests of high school students, was created under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in cooperation with the Profiles Asia Pacific and the DepEd.

From the sample drawn by the National Statistics Coordinating Board (NSCB), the selected schools were the Pilar Productivity Development HS with 256 samples, the Casiguran Technical Development HS (307 samples), Matnog National HS (185), Bulan National HS (671), and Gubat National HS (214) totaling 1,633 examinees.

The YP4SC program aims to develop a career guidance program that covers the following: aptitude and occupational interest assessment, labor market information, education and training information, career profiling, and career guidance and counseling.

The TESDA, through its Provincial Office in Sorsogon, also conducted an orientation workshop-seminar on the background and mechanics of YP4SC for at least 51 TESDA and DepEd proctors and assistant proctors respectively at the Vicenta Hall, Fernandos Hotel in Sorsogon City, September 23, 2005.

The results of the 2005 YP4SC assessment will be released to the schools concerned come January 2006.
