PTESDC Prepares Sorsogon TVET Sector for 2006

To prepare the TVET sector of Sorsogon for 2006, the Provincial TESD Committee held its 4th Quarter Regular Meeting this December 16, 2005 at Mango Grill Restaurant, Sorsogon City. Among the issues and concerns discussed were:
  • Accomplishments of the TVET sector (training, competency assessment, course registration);
  • Accomplishments of TVET bodies recognized by the PTESDC including the Provincial Competency Assessment and Certification Committee (PCACC), the Association of Sorsogon CTECs (ASCTECs) and the Municipal TESD Committees of Sta. Magdalena and Gubat;
  • Proposed Action Plans of PCACC and ASCTECs for 2006;
  • Preliminary review of the Provincial Skills Priorities;
  • Promotion of Quality Assurance System among private schools; and
  • Formulation of the Provincial TVET Agenda for 2006.
TESDA-Sorsogon, the Secretariat, and all members of the Provincial TESD Committee would like to thank Department of Trade Industry Dir. Leah A. Pagao and Provincial Agriculturist Mr. David T. Gillego for "lending" to us Ms. Ma. Teresa V. Destura and Ms. Ma. Ditas S. Dolot who both shared crucial information during the preliminary review of the Provincial Skills Priorities.

We would like also to thank Engr. Roan Espinas, Vocational School Administrator of BNVTS, and Ms. Ramona Bermillo, OIC-Voc. School Administrator of SNAS, and their schools' respective Quality Assurance focals, Ms. Melinda Fulo and Mr. Conrado Lopez, for sharing their experiences and gains along implementation of Quality Management System. Their inputs were very valuable in helping the PTESDC formulate the preliminary policy necessary to help the Sorsogon Association of Private TVIs establish their QMS.

Sorsogon Accomplishments During 2005 PNSC

TESDA Sorsogon is pleased to announce that all the competitors from the Province did very well during the Philippine National Skills Competition held this December 5-8, 2005. The following are the results:

1. Software Applications (Youth Category) - Samuel S. Magana (STI-Sorsogon) gained 558 points and ranked First among all other competitors. Coach: Mr. Eduardo Ll. Naz, Jr.

2. Jewelry Making (Abilympics) - Regidor Bonos attained 530 points and likewise overtook all other competitors as Rank 1. Coach: Mr. Jonathan de Dios.

3. Electronics Assembly (Abilympics) - Jerico Jamila earned 495 points and ranked Third.

Both Magana and Bonos will be among those who will be considered to represent the Philippines during the Asean Skills Olympics and Abilympics which will be held sometime in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

TESDA-Sorsogon would like to congratulate all the competitors, their coaches and schools/firms for a job well done.
