Sorsogon Private TVI Body Requires Trainer Qualification Certificate for All TVET Trainers, Adopts English as Medium of Instruction

In order for all their trainers to meet the requirement of Philippine TVET Trainer's Qualification Framework (PTTQF) adopted by the TESDA Board, the Sorsogon Association of Private Technical Vocational Institutions (SAPTVI) passed a resolution requiring all TVET trainers to have a Trainer's Qualification (TQ) Certificate.

The PTTQF compels all TVET trainers to have National Certificates higher than the qualification level of the trade he is teaching and be certified in at least National Certificate (NC) II.

The association passed the resolution during a meeting held on August 3, 2006 at Mango Grill Restaurant, Sorsogon City.

Meanwhile, in a separate resolution, SAPTVI urged its member schools to use English as the medium of instruction in line with TESDA Circular No. 26, s. 2006. The circular mandates the use of English as medium of instruction in TVET institutions, based on the thrust of the government to develop English speaking skills in all institutions of learning as part of preparing students for employment.

The ability to speak English intelligibly has been cited as one of the advantages of Filipino workers from workers of other countries.

Durian (BMMCI); Mr. Edgar C. Balasta (CCDI); Ms. Demetria E. Macadildig (DBTCS Inc.); Mr. Samuel Z. Lee (DSYSMSMII); Ms. Marife L. Luzuriaga (HSMFI); Ms. Lourdes B. Dellosa (SLMCS); Ms. Helen G. Ofracio (SIT Inc.); Ms. Armalyn Detoito (STI-Sorsogon); Ms. Josephine M. Frilles (VCI); Ms. Imelda E. Hernandez (WRI); and Engr. Perry Auxillos (SPEED Computer College).

Mr. Augusto A. Geronga, SAPTVI President, led the meeting.

Miss Mariglo L. Macabuhay, Sr. TESD Specialist/UTPRAS Focal Person, and Miss Elizabeth L. Bornas, Supervising TESD Specialist, both of TESDA Sorsogon Provincial Office provided technical inputs during the activity.

MTESDC-Irosin Analyzes Services, Manufacturing and Tourism Industries

As part of the formulation of its Municipal Skills Priorities, the Municipal TESD Committee of Irosin, Sorsogon continued its analysis of local industries this August 18, 2006 at the Mayor's Office during a workshop that personnel from TESDA Sorsogon Provincial Office facilitated. The members of the Committee studied the current situation and recommended direction and strategies for services, manufacturing and tourism industries during the activity.

The workshop is a continuation of the workshop held on July 28, 2006.

Analysis of other industries such as wholesale and retail, communication and financial services is scheduled to be completed on August 30, 2006.

Sorsogon TESDA Technology Institutions namely, Bulusan National Vocational Technical School and Sorsogon National Agricultural School, will use the results of the workshops as basis for recommending training packages that the local government of Irosin can implement during the months ahead.


TESDA-Sorsogon Provincial Director Mynda Santos would like to thank the local government of Irosin under the leadership of Mayor Lilia Gonzales for the kind accomodation of the TESDA team that facilitated the workshop.

Sorsogon TESDA Tech Institutions Review QMS Documents, IDP

To prepare for the deployment of their Quality Management Systems (QMS) and to produce inputs for the revision of their Institutional Development Plans (IDPs) 2005-2009, school administrators and personnel of Bulusan National Vocational Technical School (BNVTS) and Sorsogon National Agricultural School (SNAS) participated in a workshop facilitated by TESDA Sorsogon Provincial Office this August 15-16, 2006 at Tent Yard Inn, Sorsogon City.

During the activity, Quality Focal Persons and process owners presented their school's Quality Manual, Quality Working Group organizational structure and procedures manuals for review and comments.

Mr. Emmanuel H. Buban, QMS Focal of TESDA V; Miss Elizabeth L. Bornas, Supervising TESD Specialist, Mr. Manny P. Azusano, TESD Specialist II, both of TESDA-Sorsogon provided inputs during the review.

Mr. Buban also gave a briefing on updates on the TESDA Quality Management System. He emphasized the relationship of the school's QMS to meeting customer/client requirements. He also noted the value of internalizing the principles of quality in effectively implementing QMS.

Twenty-seven procedures manuals from the two TTIs were reviewed.

The progress of BNVTS and SNAS vis-a-vis the milestones they set in their IDPs were also checked during the workshop. Personnel from the two schools analyzed their accomplishments from 2005 to mid-2006 and identified factors that helped them attain their targets. They also conducted simplified failure analyses along targets where they did not completely attain them.

The Sorsogon TTIs will use the results of their analyses in proposing revisions in their IDPs later.

Ms. Romana B. Bermillo, OIC-VSA of SNAS, and Engr. Roan P. Espinas, Vocational School Administrator of BNVTS, also provided inputs to their personnel throughout all the activities during the workshop.

TESDA-Sorsogon, BNVTS, SNAS Personnel Attend Procedure Manual Formulation Trng

Personnel from TESDA Sorsogon Provincial Office, Bulusan National Vocational Technical School and Sorsogon National Agricultural School are attending a three-day seminar workshop on formulation of procedures manuals at the TESDA V Regional Office Function Hall this August 2-4, 2006.

Included among those from Sorsogon who are attending are Mr. Manny Azusano (Provincial Office), Mr. Conrado Lopez (SNAS), Ms. Julieta Galay, Ms. Janet DiƱo (BNVTS) and Ms. Melinda Fulo (BNVTS).

At the end of the training workshop it is expected that the personnel will be equipped in preparing or fine-tuning procedures manuals that their respective units will use in installing Quality Management System.
